    English expressions I dislike

    1.  good for you

--- i know whatever i did or happened to me you probably don't give a shit. but i would take it better if you simply shut up and being indiffernt rather than saying things like 'good for you'.

    2. jump start

--- there's no race in the world that you can win by jumping from the start. unless you are on Mars. just do it step by step, start from the beginning like everybody else. there's not a damn thing as jump start on earth.

    3. live life to the fullest

--- unless you are those kind of people who are bigger than life, i am afraid you might find youself live in a life full of shit even before it gets to its fullest form.

    Go! Martha

It's already a week after the fall season premier, I finally got some time to take a break and get to see those shows I recorded on my Time Warner's Tivo.

I was kind of excited to see how Martha Stewart's version of "The Apprentice" come about. I watched her stock(MSO) everyday since last week and it went down from $34 to today's $24.47, so I thought people were not very impressed with her new show. At least that's what I guessed. But I had a conversation with a friend about "The Apprentice". He told me he likes Martha's show. So I sort of feel like I just have to see it soon.

This afternoon I watched the show. And I have to say, it's a good show, I love it.

O.K. I admit at first I was not very interested about her whatsoever. Especially after the insider trading scandal, I just thought she was one of those greedy billionares who could be described by one word, a crook. And when I stombled into this article on "Vanity fair" this summer, I thought, com'on, who cares about a story about a billionare who does wrong deeds and got in prison and might have gotten special treatment anyway. And now she comes on the cover of a magazine to say she had a hard time in there? Give me a break.

However, I read the article. I found out the news about her insider trading scandal was kind of misleading. I didn't really pay much attention during that time when the news broke out. I didn't really go about to find out what exactly happended, just got the rough imprssion from the media that she has done something wrong. And of course, with scandals like Enron, people just presume this is one of those things. This is exactly how the media controls us. Because everyday there's so much information flying around, not everybody has time or the mind to find out exactly what is the truth, they get to use our presumption. We just presume things.

So I read about the 'wrong deed'. It was a day before ImClone's stock went down. She got a insider information, so she simply pull her money out. Think about it, if it were you, you got some information, doesn't matter where it come from, your broker, friends, or someone knows about the company, that a stock you own is going to go down, will you sell it right away? Who wouldn't if they are in their right mind? The problem is, she had too much money in that stock, she had 4000 shares, the worth was about $220,000. That's called 'the bigger tree gets more wind'. In fact, in her bussiness decision, she didn't hurt anyone. It's not like the Enron case that they set out to cheat people, to steal money from others. Although we do agree on the idea that insider-trading is unfair. But bussiness is bussiness. If I was to know Google's stock was to come up to $315 a share, man, kill me and I'll still put all my money in it.

I got to like her after reading the article. She is actully this hard working, self-disciplined, risk-taking, clever, decent person who made herself a heroine. Just as she said in the first episode, she is the first self-made female millionare in American history. And you gotta respect that. A lot of rumor said she is a bitch, but think if you have a 420 million bussiness to run everyday, wouldn't you be a bitch?

Started from the begining of the show, I loved it. The theme song is 'sweet dreams are made of these'.

Sweet dreams are made of these
    Who am I to disagree
I travel the world and the seven seas
    Everybody's looking for something
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you

Its emphasis is on 'American dreams', dreams that everyone comes to New York is dreaming of. Rather than Donald Trump's emphasis on just 'money money money'. Even though I have definately nothing against money.

The whole impression of the show is very Martha Stewart. Instead of D.T.'s propelling of capitalism, the luxurious lifestyle, Martha's version is much more human. She appears to be more accessible, down to earth and she cares about people. The first reward to the winning team was to have a sushi dinner with them in a stylish kitchen. Which is a chic but not extravagant setting. The second reward was to help a community to build a garden. What? That's a reward? Yes, that's the reward for winning.

A nice touch is after she fired somebody. Just after they left the conference room, she would right away draw up a letter and write to them. I thought that was a very nice guesture. She would explain the reason why she thinks they are not 'the apprentice' she is looking for. Of course, it would look hypocrite sometimes, but in a man eats man's world like this, it means something.

However, I have to say that, with a softer approach, Martha's show is a bit short of drama than D.T's. I used to get so nervous when I see them in the boradroom and slashing each other and finally Donald Trump would deliver his verdict who gets fired. I think D.T is actually quite good at holding suspense and sometimes he has some unexpected decisions which spiced up the show. So far, Martha's show is quite predictable on the outcome. But this is not a conclusion becaues it's only the second show.

I can't wait for next Wednesday.

    other people's life

I have a hobby of surfing on internet for hours.
    Sometimes for nothing.
Sometimes I stumbled into other people's life.
I look into those pictures, notes, and wondering why they live in a remote city(...like, Vancouver..., yes I am a little bit too much, it's not a remote city.) and still have an exciting live.
Or is it just an illusion?

    No talent? No problem!

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

    I just love this.

A picture of Mr. Bush and Ms. Paris Hilton is absolutely a stunning debut cover. The magazine really caught my eye when the poster is up in the city.

And the catch that read: "No talent? No problem. How to be famous for doing nothing at all. " is so halarious that I stood at a corner of the crossroad and laughed my fool head off.

    Jane Fonda

I have to say, at the age of 68, Jane Fonda looks amazing.

It started from around a moth ago, Jane Fonda appeared in 60 minutes, in an interview talking about her career, personal life, her ex-husbands and her kids.

I can't believe she is 68, and she still looks stunning. She told the interviewer that when she started her 'Jane Fonda's workout' career, her ex-ex-husband Tom Hayden didn't believe in a bit of it. But she made it, she reinvented herself as a workout guru and created another great career.

OK. I admit it. It's because the Entertainment weekly I've been picking up free in the mail room and reading it between my reading of New York Times and books. There's this article talking about her new movie [Monster-in-Law].

There's this picture of her sitting at a graden table opposite to J-Lo in a beige safari two piece suit. Her waist looks like, 28"!! My god. I mean, think about this, most american women lost their waist around 35-y-o, grow double chins around 40, and she is 68. Look at her on the movie's official website.

I guess all the hard workout paid off very well. (Of course, the surgeon's done a great job, too.) I swear I have to keep going to the gym rain or shine from now on. I can't wait to see myself look fabulous at 68.

    Well, ...not really.
